I know I already have 1 TnDeer member looking for me, but figure it can't hurt to ask everyone.

I've had alot of close calls but have yet to find a lease for next year or longer if possible. A few "almosts" from Craigslist and a co-worker said I could hunt her family farm, then the company let her go and she's not answering emails.

If anyone knows of any open leases within about 90 minutes of Hendersonville(but in TN)I'd consider myself in debt for the information. I have a $800 budget and don't need anything huge. I'd rather prefer somewhere smaller, 30-50 acres.

I'm willing to team up for a larger property to increase the budget if that's needed. I'm willing to hunt with the land owner. However I have found a young man that hasn't deer hunted but wants to learn, so I feel even more pressure to find somewhere to go with him. I'm not asking for his help in paying since I don't know how much he'll enjoy it, but he's definatley ready to go work and learn.

I love working on the property in the off season and am going a bit stir crazy not being out there now.

Any information is welcome and thank you for reading.

Thanks guys.

I always have hope, just more pressure since I found a young man that wants to learn to hunt deer to help. In Wisconsin I was part of the mentor program and while this hunter is a bit older, I still feel responsible for him at this point.

And of course selfishly, I'm going crazy with no woods to play in.

One thing to try, look up land for sale, and try to lease it till it sells, kind of risky, but has worked for me in the past, but it might sell the day before gun season starts.Never know.

Did you just contact the realtor? It might be a bit risky but worth a try if nothing comes up by late summer, but I may give that a try.

I've never had to lease hunting land before, I actually thought it would be easier. Growing up I had my grandparents dairy farm and my uncles property in Hayward, WI. After getting out of the Army I had my buddy had 180 acres up near Crivitz, WI. So I've been spoiled I guess. Even moving down here, I was blessed to be given the opportunity to hunt 9 acres that led to 30 acres next door, until they were sold.

I will follow all the advice and leads I get and just keep trying. There has to be a piece of woods out there for me somewhere to rent until I can buy my own someday.

FSBO works the best, but contacting a realtor couldnt hurt, used to have 2 leases that a realtor owned,or worked out for me.Sometimes land sits a while, offer to pay the taxes.

Got on the tax assessment web site and sent 21 letters last night to nieghbors in the area I hunted last fall. Anyone with 30+ acres and not bank owned got a letter. I offered to discuss pricing and the meat from the first deer. And buy them dinner when we meet and discuss the idea of leasing(I know I probably sounded pretty desperate but just wanted to be polite).

If I don't hear anything in 2 or 3 weeks I'll move over a couple of roads and send off more.

Fingers crossed.

I gave up on begging folks to let me hunt so I just bought 150ac farm in Rutherford county. Feel sorry for the first trespasser I see! I'll be in debt forever but you only live once.

Eventually thats the plan. But my wife in no uncertain terms has declared that we will find a house before we look at hunting property.

I kind of shot myself in the foot on this deal, since I told her our next place is the one they carry me out of. So it's got to be just about perfect for her. On top of that we still have 6 months left on our lease from the move down.

But I wouldn't mind finding a land owner and developing a long term relationship with them untill that happens. I'm betting its 10 years or so before I could buy, so I got time.
