I'll be using a grain drill to plant milo and sunflowers. What kind of spacing do you recommend? Will 7.5 inch work or should I go 15 inch?

Looks like I am seeing 10 pounds per acre recommended for milo and 25 lbs per acre on sunflower. Sound right?

Thanks.

I planted 25 acres of sunflowers today, 38 inch rows, 5.33 inch spacing on seed, I used about 80 pounds of seed total

Thanks. i was wondering if I could get away with the standard 7.5 row spacing on a grain drill without taping off holes or if I should go 15 inch or more? Is my 25lb/per acre number way too high?

my very best sunflowers are spaced 5.33 inches apart on 38 inch rows.

with this spacing the stalks will be between the size of golf ball and tennis ball depending on amount of rain, the bigger the stalk the bigger the sunflower head.

I am also using a high dollar hybrid seed, $145.00 for about 18# based on last years price, I do not have a 2013 invoice yet

if you are planting only for deer then I would go a little heavy.

you can also broadcast the seed, about 10# to the acre, and drag a piece of chain link fence or something else to cover

they will do great, they are what I used in 2010 and 2011, I went back to the high dollar hybrid last year, when properly spaced they will still be standing during the 3rd dove season
