We caught 17 of these big boys Friday afternoon(farm pond). They are plenty big enough to filet most about 2 pounds (10-12 inches long) the biggest almost 2.75 pounds. Tons of fun on light spinning tackle.

That is a nice gill. BUT, the million dollar question, is that a pink reel or is it just my screen playing tricks on my eyes? \:\) If so, that has to be a man card violation.

Uh...this is another AL bluegill and it is nowhere near two pounds. Might go 1.75 maybe.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking BW. In my mind, a 2.75 lb bream is a once-in-a-lifetime fish. If you caught one that big, you should consider getting a replica mount!

Guesstimate on that particular fish, but we have weighed plenty of them in the past. The largest we have ever weighed was a touch over 3 pounds(3.05 to be exact).

My daughter was fishin' with me (I turned that from a mancard violation to a Father of the year nomination in a flash). No really she wasn't with me but I WAS using her pink rod/reel. \:\)

The world record is from Alabama at 4 pounds 12oz. That fish above is a Hoss, I would bet he goes way over 2 pounds.Alabama Fresh Water Fish records

We all know the camera tricks of holding them way out in front of you. I am sure if I held my fish out in front of me It would look a lot bigger too.

This one is certified at 2 pounds 9oz:

Gary Waters earned the Trophy Angler Certificate
I don't know Gary, just found his fish doing a little research.

Here is another one from the same pond...it was one of the first "big" fish we caught out of the pond about 5 years ago. It was just under 2 pounds. For comparison those are standard 6 inch deck boards.

The pond is stocked with the hybrid Georgia Giant Bluegill.

...hmmm after researching this it looks like my fish would qualify for Alabama's record book if they accept hybrids, and I don't see any limitation in the rulebook. Any bluegill over 1pound/10-inches qualifies for "Master Angler" and any bluegill over 2pounds/13 inches qualifies for "Trophy Angler".

I might look into getting my kids in the record book this Spring \:\)

geez...I will be sure to take better pictures for ya next trip and ensure my scales are correctly calibrated.

I will have to take your word for the size of your fish but they look bigger than 2 pounds to me. Do you know the length of them?

...either way they were a ton of fun to catch.

Perspective difference

Arms extended:
This 2-pound, 3-ounce bluegill is the current lake record at Escambia County Lake. It was caught June 17, 2006.

Fish against his chest:
Gary Waters earned the Trophy Angler Certificate by catching this 2-pound, 9-ounce bluegill sunfish from the Escambia County lake on May 24, 2008.

Note how much bigger the 2pound 3oz fish looks than the 2pound 9oz fish.
