Settle a debate with my neighbor and I. My truck and twenty foot trailer measure forty-six feet and six inches, total gvwr is 21800. In the cdl hand book it says anything with a total gvwr of 26000 or less does not require a driver with a cdl. Am I not finding the correct information on this? And if I am not can you point me to the correct information? Thank you, and carry on.

I think you're good. Once the trailer goes over 10,000 pounds there are some more hoops to jump through, but if the total is under 26000 I think you're in the clear.

Trailer's gvrw is less than 13000 lbs. Truck's gvrw is 8800.

The way I am reading it is if the combination of manufacturers weight ratings are less than 26000 lbs. Then I do not need a cdl. Page 1-2 figure 1.1 in the cdl handbook I downloaded has the question of do I need a cdl? First question was is the total gvrw less than 26000? My answer leads to no cdl requirements.

The back of my Class B CDL says Trucks and Buses > 26000GVWR, Trailers < 10,000. So I would assume you would need a Class A to pull a trailer greater than 10k I know there is some loops for farm use and CDLs but there is so many rules and restrictions I couldn't begin to tell you all of them.

I went through same thing Friday. I came up to Cleveland, Ohio today to pick up a few message boards. 24' gooseneck and dually truck. I went and got a medical card because I am hauling over 10,000 but I don't have my cdl. I think I'm ok from the way I read it with medical card.

I don't know though
