Gobbling this morning in Carroll, just cant find them. Still pitching the shutout for the season, but gonna stay at it!

Over the last few days I think I've determined why its so quiet in my neck of the woods...the gobblers simply aren't there. This spring I have called in TONS of hens and jakes (9 more jakes this morning) so the outlook for future years is just incredible. But on those sunny, clear, calm days when you can hear for miles from a good listening spot it is absolutely dead silent. Owls going nuts, crows chiming in, hens cutting up, and not the first gobble. As well, those groups of hens had no tom which for this time of year, is perhaps another clue. Finally, I did a little research from my own notes, published brood survey, and harvest data...the 2010 and 2011 hatches were busts for my area. Combine all the data points and it becomes a little clearer why it's been so quiet.

Maybe some of you folks in west TN can also point to the same conclusion.
