All right the bar is raised again, who can beat 444 morels in one afternoon?

31 blacks, 26 half free, the rest are yellows/grays.

Season total is now 721.

I think I'm gonna call you winner of the morel pickers. I just don't think I can hit 721 around here (only found enough today for a good supper, and one of them was a big one).

Congrats on your goal of 500! Now stop picking them before the species goes extinct lol \:D

I was excited to find the blacks in one small holler, some were very fresh and blacks are early, which means there might be plenty of yellows yet to come in that holler. Funny how yellows are up in hundreds on one hillside and the blacks are still going good only a few hundred yards away in another holler. Plenty of morel season left but it won't last forever! What should my new goal be, 1000?

Might as well try a 1000. I'm not sure what I will do with 700+ morels. I normally pick enough for a meal or two and walk back home, since I normally don't preserve them...never really tried though.

This may be a stupid question, but when you dry them (I assume that's what you will be doing with this many), how long do they preserve that way, and do they taste much different from the fresh ones?

Thanks, if you have found one, you will find more. Maybe it's early in your area or you just haven't found that patch yet.

I haven't done a side by side taste comparison. but you drop them in boiling water for about a minute to reconstitute. I usually just put them in an omelet or something else like that when I rehydrate them. Drying is easy, string em up and let em air dry for a few days until they are completely dry. Then you can bag them in ziplock or however you like to keep it air tight and they will last who knows how long. At least you can save em to last till next year. I might have to sell or give away a bunch of em. \:D Aint gonna be able to eat this many rehydrated mushrooms over a year. $18.99 for a small bag of dried ones at Whole Foods. Maybe I need to open a stand at the farmers market. \:D

Figure out what you need to package them to mimic what the eBay folks are doing and make yourself some money. Undercut their price by a dollar or two to move your product and put the dough towards one of your many projects!

found plenty of fresh ones and the cold front will keep it from getting too hot, I am guessing at least a couple more weeks. But now is the best time to be looking for em

LOL you're PM box is full. I would be willing to bet you have gotten a bunch of these PM's about the mushrooms....but here goes. I'd love to try a few, we didn't have them in South Alabama so I have never even tried to look for them. Anyway if you really want to sell a few I am interested.
