I been thinking about this for some time now and i know if i buy more rifles i will need to start reloading.

Can some of the well seasoned reloaders tell me what i need to get to start reloading. I'm thinking about getting this kind of press Lee Pro Progressive 1000.i think i will well set with this press for a while.

So please let me know what i need to get to start with.

Befor you buy anything get aleast one reloading book and most are good, read it. Then deside if you want to. If you are doing it to save mony I don't know that it will, if for better loads then after you learn it can, for a hobby I love it. Now if you want to get into it because you can't find ammo, forget it, you can't hardley find compontants right now. I was at a gun show today and they were selling compontants at at least 4 times what they where last Dec.

I got the rcbs rock chucker sumpreme kit. I like it so far . You can get the kit for 349. You are going have to have scales , trimmer, deburring tool , shell holder, dies , caliper , and a tumbler. I don't know much about the lee progressive so I can't help you there. Rcbs also got a video that takes you step by step to loading handgun, rifle and shotgun shells.

If you decide on lee, get the loadmaster not the 1000. JMO.

how hard is it to use a Lee turret 3 hole reloading press? I can get a brand new one for under 125.00. I was thinking about getting one to start out with until i get a bigger and better press to reload with.

I found a other one that has 4 holes but like i said I'm just starting out and after i get use to it and get to where i can do it better and everything I'll get a better press with a lot more features to it.

If you can find the lee 4hole with auto index its a nice press too. I have it also Not hard at all to use either. You can manually pour your powder or you can still put the automatic dispencer off the loadmaster onto the 3 or 4hole.

oh ok i'll see if i can find the four hole press. I seen the 3 hole and thought it would be a good one to start out with then work my way up to a bigger and better press.

I have been using a lee 3-hole turret since 1985 or so and it is finally showing some signs of wear. I have a turret for each caliber I own .223, 22-250, 243, 7mm08, 280, 308, 30/06, and 300 winmag. I would suggest not buying a kit and the deciding factor is cash to spend and what caliber(s) you going to reload. I use RCBS dies. I have the same RCBS 10-10 scale I bought in 1985. I have a Lyman manual trimmer, recommend one with a motor as this is probably the most boring of all reloading tasks.

As for components, exercise caution right now as prices are exploitative.

As mentioned earlier, get a book or books-check the local used book store-and if at all possible find someone to show you the process, mentor you through your first efforts.

DO you save money? Maybe. over the long run, I know I have. Plus, i have the distinct pleasure of killing deer with bullets I made.

Okthe only two rifles i have to reload for right now is a 30-06 and a 30-30. but the 30-30 needs a stock put on it. so right now i just have the 30-06 and if i can find the reloading components then i would have something to do while I'm not hunting.

but i'm looking right now for dome dies for the press i'm going to get. i'm leaning toward the RCBS dies. But i'll start looking for a reloading book I thought i had one ordered but it looks like they have it on back order. Thanks for all the info i'll start looking now for the press and dies. then i'll have to find the scales and the powder measure. Then case trimmer and all the other stuff.

Your 30-30 with broken stock. Check out Boyds-

http://www.boydsgunstocks.com

The prices are reasonable, IMHO, and the selection is pretty good. Stocks and Microfit do not carry 30-30 stocks, best as I can tell.

I have twin Boys, 16 in two weeks, and the year i taught them to handload and shoot accurately we went through 900 centerfire rounds. Here's my 30/06 Browning from this past season

If you could get to Memphis, I'd sell you 100 pieces of 06 brass, a box of primers, 50 ballistic tips and 50 Partitions for about 80 bucks. Need more reloaders and I can spare enough to prime the pump.
