If you could travel light-years across space without dying of old age, would you waste time in coming here????

The thing is one day humans will have to. Our sun will start to burn out and it will grow to 4-5 times it's size burning the earth. Millions of years before it gets that bad it will get too hot for humans to live here. We either stay here and die out or send as many as we can to other plants to keep humans going.

I've been saying that for years.

As deer hunters we all understand carrying capacity of the land. Well the Earth has limited carrying capacity and we are close to reaching it.

A history teacher once told me something I have never forgot.

Today, right now, there are more people alive walking the Earth than there is all the people that died before from Jesus time to the ones that died yesterday. in other words could all the people that have died since Jesus time and todays world population, there are more today than all those others.

We can't keep this up.

Population records.

Remember Mary and Joseph, they went to the city of his birth to be counted.

Anyway he's right. There are almost 7 BILLION people alive on this earth today.

I remember back in 1492 the total worlds population was around 375 million.

Todays population would be over 14,000 times that.

Well if there were say 30 generations since Christ's death and the population of the earth was say 1.5 billon( avg ) for the last 1700 years, it has turned over by more than 6 times the earths population today. And thats if the average life was about 70. The average life was nowhere near 70 until recently. Those #s of his aren't even close.

He used census not guesses.

You can find different sites on the internet to do the math. Just don't forget to count the ones that died. What I mean is don't just add up the populations of each year. But he's right.

Here's a very simple thing we all can do. Look at our own families tree. Look how "few" there were and now look at todays trees. To break that down me myself when I was 5 years of there were a grand total of 6 of us, my grandparents, parents and my brother. Today there are 15 of us not counting the ones that died. My father had 10 brothers and sisters, I had 42 first cousins and 251 second cousins but that's counting the ones that have passed away.

Not necessarily. If you can change the mass of the object, in theory, you can go faster than the speed of light. Besides, many people believe they might use inter-dimensional travel or wormholes.

I would if the species you are visiting have began space travel, have nuclear weapons, and have no problem killing each other, let alone another species.

I am sure they view us as savages and probably consider humans a disgrace to intelligent lifeforms.

That's just what we know about the speed of light, or what we think we know.

It was AFTER man landed on the moon before we discovered anti-matter.

There are so much stuff out there that we don't know about or have any idea about them.

Well, if man keeps monkeying around with our food supply (genetic engineering, burning food for fuel, etc.), misusing antibiotics and thereby unintentionally producing 'super bugs' - and - we keep moving towards socialism...we won't have a population control issue at all.

At this time, nothing is faster than the speed of light. Also we will never be able to travel at the speed of light. Very close to it, but not at the speed of light. The closer you get to the speed of light, mass increases. So the mass of the space ship increases as well as the mass of the fuel needed to power it. The fastest you could hope to travel would be .99 the speed of light. Accelerating to that speed poses more problems. G force. If you are traveling at 32 feet/sec2 you would be dead from the G force in about 20 seconds. You would have to keep the speed of acceleration to about 3-4 G's to survive...That would take several years just to get to .99 the speed of light then years to decellerate before you stopped.

Nobody will ever leave this planet and travel light years to another planet....

There is no g force in space.

Theoretically speaking, the Einstein-Rosen Bridge aka "Wormhole", could be applied for travel of such distances. This, theoretically speaking, would allow faster than light travel by ensuring that the wormhole traveller never exceeds the speed of light, at the same time, time spent in the wormhole would be faster than a competing speed of light traveller. A common analogy for this is a world class sprinter running full speed around the base of a mountain is beat by your grandmother simply walking a tunnel that runs directly through the mountain. The only problem is, as I understand it, that you would actually arrive at your destination before you left

Anyway, the NASA scientist speculated "advanced" life, however they did not say speculate "intelligent" life. Theoretically, these planets have had a longer time than Earth to develop life (~2 billion years longer than life on Earth). That doesn't necessarily mean that self aware life has developed. It could be a planet of full of advanced plant life.

Wrong answer Captain Mensa...there is a g force applied to a person and object that is being accelerated by an external force even in space. There is no g force around you in space but there is most definitely g forces being felt by anyone in a rocket ship traveling at anywhere near the speed of light. \:D \:D

Nah....'life' is not what we are - leather bags of mostly water worrying about what can be seen, felt, heard, smelled or tasted here and.... if all that can be done elsewhere.

Life is what comes AFTER we aspire to achieve all we can here my friend.

How can we be screwed when the outcome is already laid out?
