I think your son will do well with them.Never used them myself yet.Have talked with several folks in GA who have second results as to PH's post.

It's hard to beat any of the ballistic tips in hunting calibers under 3000 fps at impact.
I would guess I've taken 75-80 deer with ballistic tips over the years and never lost a single one (although in the 7mm caliber). Only two required a second shot (bad 1st shot placement with the first shot on both)

It will work, but there are better bullets out there. Why not use a better bullet?

thinking about taking the wifes Model 7 6mm Rem loaded with the 85 SBTHP and 4064,it cuts bullet holes and is a death ray on small deer.
I aint sure you will find a better bullet than the NBT at velocities they were meant to run at.but the kids young and still a little recoil shy and I dont want to drive 12 hours and have him screw up,,I mean these animals dress about 80 pounds.
