This is my daughters second year of trap shooting and is doing really well. When she first started I bought her a 870 remington 12 gauge to start with. I figured if she didn't stick with it it would make me a good dove hunting gun. Well she has stuck with it so I'm thinking I'm going to buy her a break action gun. The 870 is a great gun but she shoots it so much the barrel gets hot and the shells don't want to kick out. Any sugestions on a good gun that won't break the bank? Thanks!

do not buy a browning the recoil is to harsh, 1187 or Beretta is a good choice if interested in autos, Beretta O/U is also good

I do not understand the 870 getting hot and the shell thingy

Gander Mtn carries this stoeger. Not sure of prices at other places, but my father in law had one of these and was a great shooting gun. but he traded it off for a browning a5

I think id like to get an o/u just incase she starts shooting doubles. Right now her high school team only shoots singles. he 870 is a pump and we've tried many different brands of shells and they all do it. The rio's seam to be the worst. Each shoot they shoot 100 rounds and the gun starts jamming on her after about the65 to 70 round.

We have looked at the Stoeger a few times but the gun is so heavy. It would wear a 14 yr old out after 100 rounds. Lol!

My son started shooting trap last year for the first time and after a couple of practices I knew the pump that he was using was not going make it. I got a Beretta 3901 RL for him and it has been an exultant gun. It has little recoil and he can shoot Trap, Skeet and sporting clays with it.

Beretta 300 series. Less recoil than an over under, and cheaper.

Forget about stoegers or cheap O/U's. Those guns may be fine for hunting and occasional shooting, but they will absolutely fall apart in your hands if you try to shoot'em like a mid-high end o/u. First thing is make sure the gun fits her properly, then move on to next step. Proper fit is sometimes tough for women to get right.
I shoot Browning O/U's. A cynergy and a 725 sporting. I've shot'em all from the Krieghoff's and perazzi's to the Brownings and beretta's. I personally can't tell enough difference in the recoil of any of them to confidently say that would be a reason not to buy one. But different people handle recoil differently.
I'd rather shoot my O/U's over any others, but the beretta A400 is one of the finest semi-auto's to hit the market. Very soft shooting gun. If I can ever find one in a 20 gauge, I'll probably own it!

I don't know about current break action shotguns, but for a dependable pump action, I would go with Mossberg. I have a 835 and 500, and the only problem I've ever had (knock on wood) was somehow the cartridge stop got bent, but now that's fixed and both work great. To me the kick of both guns even with turkey load and choke is not bad at all.

If she decides to start hunting, I know I like having more than one or two shells in the gun.

Have you cleaned the 870 and reoiled it? If not, that may be a reason why it sticks.
