I guess this has been brewing for a few years now and I have overlooked it due to stupidity being a waste of my time but today a line was crossed.

Man has had permission to ride his four wheelers and dirt bikes in the field across the road ever since he was like 9.
2 or 3 years ago the guy that owns the land stopped by (we know him and go to church with him) and said he was gonna have to stop all the riding in the field due to getting so many calls of complaining.
They all came from the same woman.

Ok dude, no problem and man hasn't been in the field since.
There are several other four wheelers and bikes that still go through there on a pretty regular basis, but to my knowledge with the exception of one day when it snowed man has never been in it.

Anyway last week someone called the cops about man shooting guns.
Fine, even though he was perfectly within the law and completely safe, it is the world we live in and I can understand the noise issue so we won't be doing that anymore either, just to insure we, as hunters, don't get any more of a bad name.

Well today man came back from a friends on his four wheeler and was putting it in the shed and someone from that same house (that the woman lives in) was hollering at man.

He said it took him a minute to figure out where it was coming from and they said yeah you fat boy in the red shirt, I am talking to you.
Stay out of my field.

Of course my first instinct and desire was to go up there and explain to them what facial bones breaking sounded and felt like but I didn't.

Instead I did the yellow bellied coward piece of crap thing that they would do.
I called the cops.

They came and basically we explained what happened and why I thought it happened and I also told him that they very well could have seen someone in "their" field, that they don't own, and could have THOUGHT it was man.
In any case I explained to the officer that I would not tolerate my son being in MY yard and getting yelled at and called names.

I went on to say that I understood this was very juvenile but none the less, it would not be tolerated.
Because of the distance man told the officer that he could not identify the person 100% that did the yelling so there was really nothing they could do.

He explained what we needed to do in the future to "build our case" and go from there.

God how I long for the good ole days when complete and total morons and B's were few and far between. \:\(

Might get interesting for sure.

I cant believe you cant solve this yourself! The solution is so obvious..... You need to host a weekly TNDEER skeet shoot at your place! They will call the cops every week and the cops will finally get tired and tell them to put a sock in it. My neighbor used to complain about the kids shooting their .22 rifles.... so I did the right thing and needed to verify the zero on my .300 Win Mag every Saturday around lunch. They finally just gave up since we were not breaking the law. Seriously good luck with the pains in the butt.

More things about fish heads come to mind. I think I would have to go crazy redneck with weakly shooting sessions along with a few rides in the field after I removed my muffler from the four wheeler.

I hate that for you. We had cop calling neighbors for a while. They called anytime the usual group of teens was at the house which was every weekend. The last straw was when the neighbors across the street had a party and give cops were sent here. The kids weren't being loud at all but they blamed them. I went off. I told them to back off or I would move and rent all 3 houses to migrant workers and see if they liked 40 of them living next door. Some people think the world revolves around them.
Have a bang bang party and show them what noise really is. I like the idea of getting permission to ride the field again too.

I bet there is more to the story. Need to read between the lines. I bet all they want from you is to let them borrow yours guns so they can shoot and they just want you to put gas in your 4 Wheeler and let them keep it and ride it til they feel like bringing it back. That's all. I have had neighbors like that and they really make it hard to be a law abiding person. Good luck and try to keep your cool.

Have you tried talking to them? Not being ugly to them or anything, but just trying to find some common ground to maybe smooth out the bumps in the road between you guys...
I realize that may not work but butting heads with them is obviously not working.
Good luck with it. I had neighbor problems years ago and finally ran them out.

Hate to hear that and I've been though it before. When it happened to me it was because more and more people were moving into the area building new houses making it unsafe to do what we used to do. Where I'm at now is ok but that's going to change in a few years, there's a new house being build down the road so others will be coming.

If it was me and lived outside the city limits I would shoot everyday. I would let Man ride his dirtbike and wheeler as long and loud as he wanted to. I would sit out in my shop with the radio turned up and whatever else I could think of that would piss them off. I would not put up with someone calling one of my kids that without some conciquences.

Ruger, I would suggest Man and his buddies start saving ten bucks per week for the first week in July. That's when we celebrate our nation's independence. Such celebrations call for a few days of heavy artillery.

4 boys X 10 bucks/week X 13 weeks til = $520 in really loud fireworks. \:D

Kill a deer or pig and sharpen a stake at both ends.... Just kidding. I hope it gets better. These problems are never fun to deal with.

Sounds to me like the cops could ease it over. We used to shoot at my buddies house outside city limits. He lived in a small neighborhood, but it was in the middle of nowhere and we had permission to hunt and shoot in the woods behind his house. it was easier to shoot from the back porch and put targets up in the woods. We knew what was beyond the targets... Nothing, but more woods. the lady next door without fail would call the law and they would show up. Finally they went to here and explained that we weren't breaking the law in anyway and while annoying they were not going to continue to come out and waste their time, because they couldn't do anything. we didn't do it that often, but after that, she stopped calling.....

If you know their schedule, as in when they aren't home, prepay with cash about five yards of manure to be delivered to the end of their driveway. Better yet, have someone other than you pay it so there isn't a chance for identification. While they are outside figuring out what to do with it, sit in your yard under some shade sipping a glass of iced tea.

I have had neighbors like that before. You can't satisfy them because they are just looking for a problem to gripe about.

I finally just moved out in the sticks and don't have neighbors that are very close anymore.

I would probably go out of my way to irritate your neighbor and keep within the law on your property just to here he yell. I would tell Man to wave back with a big grin. I'd let her call the cops all she wanted, won't take long for them to be the one talking to her over the deal.

Build your case Ruger...and yes, in the good ol days they seemed to be fewer and farther between...but that's a lot b/c of in those same ol days, those igits would have just been shown the error, or rudeness, of their ways...with the gratitude of the local law for helping control those same igits. ;\) Good luck down the road dealing with em.

I'd at least "try" to talk with them if possible.

I KNOW my 2 got on people's nerves with ATV's etc but at least my boys knew that if they were doing something they weren't allowed to do - they wouldn't like to results with me whereas I have a situation now with some kids (12 yrs old) driving Dad's trucks on the property line between them and us (Yes 12) and swerving over in my 3acre lot - that I mow and would prefer to keep rutless \:\) and I have NEVER allowed my own to ride in my yard, however these 2 boys get 0 supervision so I guess I'm getting ready to fence. Friday night they were doing the same thing on 4 wheelers until close to 10 when I turned on the spotlight \:\)

I woulda gone to jail. Hope you get it worked out. Double check on the noise thing, then shoot away and tell them to stuff it! If you are legal, have at it! Invite every kid in the area to come ride four wheelers in your yard! Or at least to "test" the throttles out!! Someone speaks to my kids like that they better be ready to face my wrath and hope mama bear dont get within striking distance.

Good luck with that one brother!

I've had issues with my next door neighbor. To bad we literally live 30 feet apart. His psycho girlfriend is where it started. How do you reason with somebody that is ocd to the point of checking each car door 3-5 times each to see if there locked, and to somebody that openly talks to herself out loud?

I don't have any advice for ya...but I hate to hear you're having trouble with neighbors. That is never fun.

There is a real winner that bought the farm next to my dad's place. There's a small creek that divides their properties...and these people built their house way off the main road; put up an electronic gate at the road, and cameras at the gate. It's all fenced in...ain't no getting in back there. Well they are bat crap crazy. They have cattle and a couple big dogs. A couple weeks ago they were going from house to house...pulling into people's yards and accusing everybody of killing one of their calves. Yep...pretty bold if you ask me. Dad said they had the calf in the back of their truck and they were hauling it around accusing people of killing the thing via shooting it three or four times with a rifle, and butchering it in their front yard at their porch steps. They went on to threaten all the other neighbors that if they caught any of them on their place or any of their critters on their place, that they had AR-15s with lots of bullets and night vision scopes, and would be killing anything that came over there.

Dad looked at the calf in the back of the truck and said the thing looked to be only a few days old. His guess is that it died on its own or one of the dogs killed it, and had been eating on it...dad said the places on its hide didn't look like any bullet hole he'd ever seen. Yep. Those are the kind of neighbors dad is dealing with now. Great times.

I had a neighbor in Los Angeles. He was okay, She was nuts. Why, I'd be out in the garden (I worked nights) and she'd come over and plop down on a drywall bucket and bug me no end, wearing that shorty nightgown, drinking a mighty cold beer, and not offering me a drink. Used to drive me crazy.

Sure missed that neighbor when they moved.

I can vouch for it, its got a great view.

I saw plenty of deer, killed 2 right on the property line last season and heard turkeys just about every weekend.

Why are they buttholes? Because they don't like what you like or go against you? In all honesty, you have to think about it from their perspective to,I'd say if a person rideing a ATV all over in front of or around my house all day or for hours on end could indeed get annoying.Im not sticking up for either side, but there is always 3 sides to a story.Your side, Their side, and The truth.

I am in a somewhat similar position, but from the other side of the fence.

My next-door neighbors in our tightly-spaced subdivision have three sons. They have 4-wheelers, duck calls, goose calls, fireworks, pellet guns, and all the usual things that most boys play with. One is old enough to drive and has a truck with a partially functioning muffler.

I've raised two kids up from infancy within 25 feet of the corner of their house (my youngest is now 2).

The biggest difference in our situation is that we are well within the city limits. That said, I have only asked them to keep the noise down once or twice ever, and that was when they were still shooting fireworks late at night while my kids were trying to go to sleep.

I give them as much latitude as I possibly can, because I think that in general they are just kids that are having fun, and they seem to be pretty good overall. I like the fact that they are learning outdoors pursuits as well.

I just wish that some parents would teach their kids the same kind of consideration that my parents taught me. Things like "just because it is your right doesn't mean that you should exercise it every night at 9 PM when kids are trying to sleep". You know, little things like that.

I'm sure their situation is different, but I just share my experiences in the hopes that people understand (as others have pointed out) that there is another side to the story. If those kids woke my son or daughter up from their nap every single day, I'd be fuming mad too.

No matter what, calling folks names is out of line. Please don't think that I'm defending their behavior. Just perhaps their frustration.

All of these stories support one common truth - subdivisions are awful \:\)

One thing I might add that I thought of on the way home.
As the crow flies, straight line, this "neighbor's" house is right at a quarter of a mile away from my house.

If you drive down the road to this house you will pass 5 houses along the way, not counting the 3 that are RIGHT next door.

Just some fyi that may be of some importance before everyone gets the idea that man is doing doughnuts in front of the butt's house.
