I doubt that there is a shotgun out there that will take the use/abuse of an 870. Looking in the gunsafe the other day I found one that I had forgotten about. I have three set up for turkey, and one for waterfowl if I don't feel like carrying my BA5.

They are cheap (realatively speaking), and will last and work a lifetime.

I am in the same boat and made the decision on the 870 model 81125 which is designed for both turkey and waterfowl in Mossy Oak, 26 inch barrel. I paid right around $500. Not sure where you are at but I know Bass Pro in Nashville just received 3 of this model.

870 is the better all around gun, but likely wont pattern quite as well with Turkey loads as the ol Slapburg will!

They both sling lead and steel just fine I go with the lesser priced one and use the money saved on a good choke tube and some shells and pumps are pretty reliable

If you can afford an 870 for each purpose, that's the route I would take.... otherwise:

a short barreled 870, for easy maneuvering in the turkey woods is going to suck in a duckblind....

a long barreled 870, to save your buddies ears in the duckblind, may be more cumbersome to tote/use in the turkey woods.

I guess if you are dead set on one universal set-up for both.... I would go to Dick's Sporting Goods and pick up one of the Bone Collector series 870 super mags..... so you can shoot 2 3/4 - 3.5" shells.... and has screw-in chokes.

It comes from the factory drilled & tapped in case it doesn't quite shoot POA/POI for turkeys and you have to mount an optic.... or if you want to add an optic anyway. But I wouldn't be swapping one on and off between turkey/ducks for fear of eventually wearing out the threads, hence having a dedicated gun for each.

It has a 26" barrel that would work for both.... although you will still need to be mindful of your buddies ears in the duckblind.... but a 26" would be better than a 21" or 23" barrel in the DB. Has the regular stock but comes with the shur-shot forearm. It cmes in full camo and is still reasonably priced for what you get.

Well I finally received my Remington 870. I picked up the Turkey and Waterfowl model (81125). Here is my first shot with the turkey choke at 40 yards.

870 no doubt. However, I'm going to go against the grain a little. I own two 870 Supermags. A designated turkey gun and a general purpose gun. If I were you I would buy a 3 inch 870 in camo with a 26" barrel. A 3.5" is great for a turkey gun, but in a general purpose gun the stroke on a supermag is so long it's easy to jam up on a hot dove shoot. 3" will kill anything you want to kill and the 3" Hevishot turkey loads are stone cold killers. DO NOT buy the cheap blued 870. You will always be concerned with rust. Spend the extra $$$ for camo. You'll have it the rest of your life.
