I have been looking for a 45-70 in a bolt gun but haven't done any good. I really like the 45-70 at Ruger #1 velocities that a lever gun can't withstand. So, I decided to re-barrel a Savage 110 7MAG to 458WM. This way, I can load it anywhere from hot 45-70 to full blown 458WM. It couldn't have been any easier. With the barrel kit from E.R.Shaw and a little barrel channel reshaping, it was done in a couple of hours.

You have a good barrel I have a Shaw in 6mm, I also like the 45-70. The 438 should do what you want.

I've been eyeing an ER Shaw barrel with the Helical fluting. Good looking set up with the 458WM.

Very nice Rig!!
How long does it take to receive a barrel from E.R.Shaw?
I inquired about a rifle and it was like 14 months.

I really couldnt comment on the length of time from ER Shaw but I do have a 325 wsm that was built by them and it is great. I would say that it is worth the wait even if it does take a while.

Thanks for the information Hunter 0925. I should have placed the order 1yr ago, I would have a nice 7-08 in my hands ready for deer season.
I am still thinking about a barrel for my savage,I just get frustrated thinking about the wait.

Can't blame you there. I was blessed with a bad stomach and no patience so I know the feeling. I would love to do a 7mm08 or a 308 build and would have no hesitations in using ER though.

I too inquired about an ER Shaw rifle and got the 14 month quote. I'm too impatient for that. So I helped a fellow TNDEER member out by buying his rifle for the build. I found my ER Shaw barrel in stock at E Aurther Brown Co. Just google EABCO. I just checked their site and it appears they have 223, 308, and 30-06 stainless barrels in stock with the factory contour. Before adding to cart, I would give them a call for a personal inventory check.
