I posted Tuesday about the passing of Tony Knight (Knight Rifles). On Wednesday, Don Clark, one of the three founders of Bowhunter Magazine died. Along with Marion Ray James and Fred Wallace, they started Bowhunter in 1962(I think). Don was also the head of the Archery Hall of Fame and just one heck of a nice guy and a great friend. When I was in a coma, he called my wife and asked if he could come from IN and help. He was that kind of guy.

That makes for two of the real visionaries of our sport in one week. Will the rule of threes apply? I sure hope not. We need those kind of people.

Had no idea Bowhunter was that old of a mag. I'd love to see some of the old ones.

Didn't mean to hijack the meaning of the thread.

We brought Bow and Arrow Hunting Magazine out two months before Bowhunter. It is the oldest bowhunting magazine in the world. Before it changed management hands, I was very proud to be associated with B&A and surprisingly, there was a great bond between our staff and Bowhunter. I wrote for both even though I was on the staff of B&A. We had that good a relationship.

It is sad that so many of the real quality writers for both publications have either retired from magazine writing or have passed on. There was some real fine story telling in those two mags.

I was chatting with abnother of the early writers and he wondered how many articles I had written for B&A under a different name and I did not know. In those early days, it was hard to get articles in on time. Remember, there was no email or computers. We wrote on old typewriters and had film cameras and had to mail stuff in. As a result, I often had to put a story or two together overnight and used assumed names. By the way, I can never reveal them \:\)

Dam those were some good years.
