A personal observation on the 10th anniversary of the beginning of the Iraq War:

In the years that followed 19-20 March 2003, over 4400 American lives were lost and millions more forever changed. It is important to remember that every American who served was a volunteer. They each stood tall and said, "Here am I; send me." They and their comrades who've served in Afghanistan truly constitute a Latter Day Greatest Generation. The words, deeds and examples of the American veterans I have come to know over the last decade have made me a far better man than I would otherwise have been. For their valued friendship, and for all else they gave, I offer my heartfelt thanks.

Hold close and support the living; keep green the memories of those who fell. Comfort the wounded; remember those whose loved ones gave all. Never forget. Never forgive.

Great post.

Thank you to all who served.

HOMEWARD BOUND

Words and Music by Marta Keen

"In the quiet misty morning, when the moon has gone to bed,
When the sparrows stop their singing and the sky is clear and red,
When the summer's ceased its gleaming, when the corn is past its prime,
When adventure's lost its meaning, I'll be homeward bound in time.

Bind me not to the pasture. Chain me not to the plow.
Set me free to find my calling and I'll return to you somehow.

If you find it's me you're missing, if you're hoping I'll return,
To your thought I'll soon be list'ning; in the road I'll stop and turn.
Then the wind will set me racing as my journey nears its end,
And the path I'll be retracing when I'm homeward bound again.

Bind me not to the pasture. Chain me not to the plow.
Set me free to find my calling and I'll return to you somehow.

In the quiet misty morning when the moon has gone to bed,
When the sparrows stop their singing, I'll be homeward bound again."

Good post!

I remember like it was yesterday when we got the movement orders and staged along the Kuwait/Iraq border the night before - sure was a ton of stuff going thru our heads that night.
