Has anyone heard if it passed? Also I heard it got watered down where it really does not matter. If your employer post no handguns you can't have them in your vehicle. Is this true?

Wow, I thought that was the purpose of the bill, to allow 2nd A rights, at least in the parking lot of your employer, regardless of signage.

It was passed and didn't do me a bit of good, since my company, who was fighting it, can still fire me if I bring one onto the lot, even though I'm not breaking state law.

From reading the synopsis, it didn't change a thing! I may be wrong, but it looks like a smoke screen so all those involved could say they did something to support the 2nd amendment, but in reality, they did nothing.

Did it stop an employer from searching your car ? if so then it's done 'something' -

I didn't see a prohibition on searches in any of the language.

No it did not. The excuse for not preventing the employer from firing for carrying in the vehicle is that TN is a right to work state, so they say the employee can fire you for any reason anyway.

So I guess its a right to work state but not a right to carry at work state.

Nope. if it is in the handbook or was told you when you were hired, searches can still be made.

The whole Concealed Carry Right doesn't amount to much either. You can carry your gun as long as you don't carry it somewhere that you can't carry it. An oversimplification obviously exaggerated some to make my point, but a CC permit doesn't really do what they say. For instance you can't go to a school and pick up your child. You can't go on federal property. Besides, the 2nd Amendment doesn't say you can bear arms if you get a little card from your state government. It's irritating that they take our rights away then give them back to us in tiny bits and pieces and make us think they've done us a favor.

I actually like this bill... It gets the government out of our business. Now, if you carry a weapon on to someone's property, it's between you and the property owner. Now there is no legal issues as far as the .gov is concerned. Sure an employer can still fire you, but an employer can also fire for many other things that aren't against the law.

I think it is BS that companies can still fire you for no reason in this state. I am against Unions and what not, but when it comes to my lively hood and my families lively hood, I want a good reason, as to why I am being fired.

As for the company, I can understand the "don't bring that in my house mentality", but to say you can't leave it in your car thus taking away my right to carry 5 days out of the week, is not ok with me.

I agree that it sucks, but I also don't think that the government has any business giving direction. Most companies will also fire you for profanity (1st amendment), surfing internet porn, drinking beer or even disrespecting your superior. None of these are illegal, but it's their company and they can (and should be allowed to) do what they want. They are not taking away any of your rights. They are asking you to comply with their wishes if you want to be employed....

Of course, many of us will now risk getting in trouble with the company now that there is not a risk of breaking the law.
