Yep, verifying that the old gasket is not stuck to the engine before you put the new filter on is another detail that is important. But there's nothing that gets the old adrenaline going quite so fast as tearing the end of a filter up trying to take it off and realizing that if you now try to run the engine all your oil will pump out on the ground. \:\)

Buy my tires from Gateway. Carry Mobil 1 oil and filter with me when I take vehicles in for rotation and balance, pay about $16 to let them change it while they have it.

DIY it's really hard to go wrong with any quality oil change special the parts stores run, just be dilligent about actually doing it.

Kind of like The Bible, the best version is the one in your hands.

this thread is funny as heck

a lot of filter experts on here

half of them cant tell you who manufactures the toyota filter and the microns it filters or the material inside of it

but yes cantman change the filter

apply a thin film of oil on the rubber gasket or o ring tighten hand tight snug dont use a socket or wrench to tighten

i like baldwin filters of course i get them at wholesale prices

wix from napa is a good choice

There is a lubrication place on the corner in your town very close to the square.Stop by and ask what the cash price would be. Might be about the same as doing it yourself. Worth a drive by and ask, besides chances are you have to drive by it to go to parts houses, seeing that all the auto parts stores are on the same street there. there You can pm me for more details.

I use only wix and napa brand filters.. And always change your oils filter when changing the oil.. I usually only use napa brand oil or ford motorcraft oil.. But I drive a ford so.

On our 3 toyota trucks, they all have Wix filters, a 1950 Ford Wix. My 02 7.3 powerstroke, Wix. On the 01 7.3 flat bed, wix. 07 dodge 3500 wix.

Everyone has there preference, and I swear by a wix. Could be I just done it the right way when I put it on, but I love em.

Start her up let it run for 10-15 minute. Get the oil a little warm. After you drain should be able to just rotate the filter by hand. And make sure the old gasket came off and didnt stick.

Replace with what you choose to buy, rub a small about of oil around the gasket and only hand tighten.

The Toyota dealership here sells the filters 3 for $15 bucks. You can get cheaper filters but like others, I use Toyota filters.

I saw on TV last night auto zone or advance is running oil change special for $20.99 if you want to cheap out. That's the oil and filter.

I went to autozone and they had the discount for the oil and filter together. Paid just under $20 including tax. Mobil 5000 and a STP filter

Thanks everyone for the advice
