Wix filter / Mobil 1 and change every 6k for my 04 tahoe. I should hit 200k this spring. No oil leaks, and it maybe burns a half a quart by 6k miles. The extra cost of the synthetic will equal out doing it every 3k. Lots of manufacturers are now suggesting synthetic and oil changes every 10k.
Good luck changing your oil. JUST DON'T OVERTIGHTEN YOUR NEW FILTER OR OIL PLUG. I'd be happy to show you not how to make the mistakes I did long ago. Good luck.

Catman, the oil change is a simple and great money-saving maintenance item. Auto parts places like to put great sales on combo deals that include a filter and oil. Take advantage.
But I need to tell you this: in all my years of Toyota ownership (since '86), the one and only filter I have been willing to use is the one that is on sale.
Do anything but, and you jeopardize the life of your vehicle.

Wix filters on both my vehicles. O'Reilly's has a display with all the oil filters they sell are cut so you can see the inside of each filter. Pretty cool to see, but you can also see the descrepency in price that way as well.

The important thing to remember about oil changes is to DO them. Be consistent and always change the filter. Asking what filter is the best is like asking what cartridge is the best to deer hunt with. It's popular to knock Fram filters in recent years but the only thing I've seen to back that up are personal websites that cut filters open and don't like the way Fram filter media looks. Hardly scientific. For a test to condemn a filter I want to see a test where different filters are used to filter oil with a known contamination level and the oil cleanliness is measured over time as the oil is recirculated through it. Just cutting a Fram open and saying that it "don't look good" has nothing to do with it's performance. I've used about everything myself and have had no problems with any of them. I am somewhat leary of the cheapo Chinese filters that certain autp parts stores give away with oil purchases but even those are unlikely to cause problems unless you leave them on for years.

The life of your oil and the distance between oil changes depends on the conditions you drive under.Big city bumper to bumper driving your oil will get dirtier faster. The wife's Grand Prix told you when the oil needed changing by measuring the viscosity of the oil. When we lived in Nashville the light always came on at close to every 4,000 miles. When we Moved to Benton county I started changing around every 8,000 miles. When changing your filter be sure to coat the sealing ring with a thin coat of oil.You only need to snug it hand tight.

All oil filters have an anti drain back valve. Fram - the orange one - is the worse thing you can do to your engine. Purolater makes a very cost effective filter that does a great job.
X2!!!!
Fram are CHEAP for a reason.
