After experiencing excruciating back pain from holding still against a tree for hours at a time, I added this lightweight DIY cushion to my vest 2 years ago. It works really well, so I thought I would share.

I took a 3/4 length Thermarest, which is a lightweight sleeping bag pad designed for backpacking, deflated it to about 35%, folded it 3 times, stuffed it in my turkey vest and cinched in place with a strap. Works great! And, yes, I have unrolled it and taken a full on, deluxe nap in the woods before.

You've never gotten pinned down in a multi hour hold out with a locked up bird?
I've had that happen multiple times hunting close to a roost. A bird pitched down with hens, puts a show at ~60 yards for 2-3 hours, all the while a knobby, Cypress tree is digging in my back.

I think the small ones are about $30. I bought that one probably 15+ years ago. It was in my "retired" climbing/mountaineering gear pile which is always my "go to" selection for gear solutions to hunting problems. If I had to buy one, I look on Ebay or in the Campmor bargain bin. I'm guessing there are knock off brands, too that are just as suitable.

I have a couple, but mine are the wrong color. I might could sew up a cover for them... Sucks getting old. Used to not care about 4 hours against a tree.

A bit better alternative that isn't so big and bulky is to use one if the camo self inflating cushions. Blow in it a little to increase its thickness a little and you're good to go.

Great idea! The therma rest trekker chair would do the same as well and make it a little more durable.

Mine is actually blue, I just folded it inside out since the bottom is natural brown.

Yep, you could so that. Not as much surface area, but still get the job done and lightweight.

That could work, too. -more trouble than I am usually willing to go to since you would actually have to deploy the chair, but if you were going to intentionally stay put for a long time, it would be fine.
