I am not surprised a bit. In a system where the wildlife belongs to the landowner, of course the landowner wants more of them because that means more income. Never mind any kind of ecological damage that may be resulting. As far as the "gamekeepers" are concerned, those are their livelihood because they are paid to manage them for the owner of the property. Those people are not worried at all about the health of the herd or the ecosystem, they are worried about the number of dollars that can be generated by selling hunts to the wealthy. The more deer they have, the more hunts they can sell, and the easier the hunts are.

There is far more to this story than just big landowners in Scotland. Deer hunting is a far larger past-time and business in England than American hunters understand. They have four different species of deer in England that range free and are hunted by the public, just like deer hunting here in the U.S. Exactly who wants these deer culled and why is the big story. Is this proposed culling for the health of the deer population or to appease Environmentalists? Are the deer really destroying the habitat?
