One advantage to the homebrews using 2 AA batteries is that the unit itself is smaller (and lighter to carry). The smaller size means it's less likely to be seen by a trespasser. And being smaller & lighter, it's more practical to carry one of these in your fanny pack while hunting, as you'll commonly find places to place a cam while you're hunting.

Me and my dad own a cuddeback on halfers. It's a 2006 Expert. Just got it back from Non-Typical about 3 weeks ago. It quit taking night photos. Got it back and it was taking night photos, no problem. Put it back out and retrieved the flash card last week and the pictures are all this weird pink and bluish color. Can't make out any forms at all. Guess it's going back to NT. It's a piece of junk. I'd sell it, but my dad wants to keep it.

Amen. Definitely one of the biggest bonehead moves ever. Looks like they would get smart and go back to what was working. Of course if they did it would hurt my business, because that's mainly who is buying my cams. Old Cuddeback customers.

In the free enterprise system, the companies that prosper are those which offer something better at a fair or lower price.

When Cuddeback first came out with their 1.3 mp digital cam, they were offering one of the lowest cost digital cams available WITH A FAST TRIGGER SPEED (approximately 1 second). Because this same group (Non-Typical/Cuddeback) had sold the awesome DC-200 film cams, they had a huge customer base of happy clients who immeditely purchased lots of the new Cuddeback digitals.

Then, for about the same price, Cuddeback came out with a 3.0 mp digital, which was everything the 1.3 had been plus better quality images. Cuddeback prospered and probably, by far, had the largest group of happy customers of any company selling game cams.

Then came 2006.

I doubt I'll ever get anything other than a Homebrew cam now, but I can't help but wonder if Cuddeback realizes where the mistakes were made and will go back to the quality of pre-2006 in the future.

If they want to stay in business they will. They can only live off their past good reputation for so long.
