I think it might be the perfect bullet from the 308 at 2900 fps or so,,deer live weight probably 100 pounds.

may be taking Ethan on a juvy hunt fall break,,got a deal on 110-120 class free ranging,,with a good chance at a fallow or axis.

I know of a local shop owner here in East Tennessee that used that bullet for deer here in Tennessee. He and his dad both used it and were pleased with the results in 308s. I've never tried them myself, but trust this man's opinion.

Back when I was young and dumb, I shot a deer with a Mod 70 308
that I has loaded with a 130 gr sierra hollow point flat base.
Very accurate and at the shot the deer went down sideways.

That is the first time I ever used them on deer and the last. I still have about half a box of heads left. Never reloaded another one of them.

Hold thing was bad news. However I think the 125 NBT will work fine.

I may still be dumb but not young.

I was approached by my ex bosses hunting buddy to load him some 125`s for his 300 Win Mag. I went ahead and ordered them, and never heard another word. I got some here if you need um.

MB-I loaded the 125NBT over Reloder 7 last year for my 11yo for use in his .308 youth Model 7 Rem. I loaded them to about 2700 or so I think. He killed two small bucks and an adult doe with the rifle and load. The recoil is mild even from the light weight M7. The bullets worked well even with less than ideal placement. We got pass throughs at 35 yards on broadside shots. The doe was taken at about 100 yds. The deer went down quickly. No complaints here. Tristan loves his model 7 and is very confident with his green tipped ammo. Plateau Hunter

I have 2 of the 50 count boxes. I looked and they are different lots. Since they are for your son Ethan I`d be tickled to just let him have them to use. I can`t imagine any better place for them.

I think your son will do well with them.Never used them myself yet.Have talked with several folks in GA who have second results as to PH's post.

Good Luck to you and your son.

It's hard to beat any of the ballistic tips in hunting calibers under 3000 fps at impact.

I would guess I've taken 75-80 deer with ballistic tips over the years and never lost a single one (although in the 7mm caliber). Only two required a second shot (bad 1st shot placement with the first shot on both)

It will work, but there are better bullets out there. Why not use a better bullet?

thinking about taking the wifes Model 7 6mm Rem loaded with the 85 SBTHP and 4064,it cuts bullet holes and is a death ray on small deer.

I aint sure you will find a better bullet than the NBT at velocities they were meant to run at.but the kids young and still a little recoil shy and I dont want to drive 12 hours and have him screw up,,I mean these animals dress about 80 pounds.
