How nice a old tire for sandbags..
I have a 10 22 IMO they are not the most accurate guns out there.. a buddy bought one brand new ,stainless with laminate stock.. we tried different scopes and different shells... it never would group close enough to kill a squirrel with.. he took it to the nashville gun show and sold it..

i bought a like new one, it wont shoot for crap, especially comparecd to my cz's. thet are kind of like the ak 47's of the 22 world- tough and reliable, but not very accurate without a ton of custom work

I've never tried any of my 10/22s with the factory barrel. I always immediately replace the factory barrel with a match grade barrel the minute the gun comes out of the box.
Depending on the ammo, off a Caldwell Lead Sled I can usually get groups at 100 yards that you can fit inside a quarter coin.
I'd kind of like to try the factory barrels sometime just for comparison.

I must have gotten lucky with mine.
I have a target model that has had a $30 trigger job done to it and everything else is as it came from the factory.
I can put a 10 round clip into a target at 50 yards from a bench, just resting on bags and cover the group up with a dime.

I have 2 more that we routinely sit and shoot sweet gum balls out of a tree from top to bottom from 50 yards away. From a standing position resting the rifles against the porch support.

I am sure there are more accurate rimfires out there but I am pleased with mine.

I have a marlin model 60 that will hang right with them too. \:D

We have a 25 yr old SS laminated 10/22 and a Marlin 60 that old as well that will shoot the britches off of our Ruger \:\)

I was out shooting my stock 10/22 carbine with my brother once. The target board was at about 25 yards, and we got bored with shooting paper so we started shooting MCD's french fries stood up along a board. I happened to look back at the target board and a fly had landed on it. The first shot just missed, but the second shot was simply a .22 cal hole with splat marks around it. That is what I call shooting "bug hole" groups! \:\)

EastTNHunter,
That is funny because I was at my friends shooting one day and he has his backstop as a BIG wooden box built around a huge oak tree stump.
The throws all his limbs and yard trash in the box.
It is FULL of wasp nests in the summer and when we start shooting they go crazy.
We were shooting and some of the wasps would land on the targets and we were doing the same thing with them. \:D
Pretty fun to wait, acquire a target and then follow them as they move till they stop. \:D

Bought my 10/22 in 1982. Put a tasco scope on it (4x32) and it is very accurate. I can't get a lot of light like some other scopes, but it is a great little squirrel gun. Granted, I don't take very long shots, but it will put a bullet through them when needed. Got the gun for under $100 and the scope that is on it, came with the 30-30 that was bought at Target. So not a lot invested for a good gun.
