A buddy of mine is always coming up with pottery he finds out looking for arrowheads and such. I had never found any pottery before so I talked him into letting me tag along this past Monday. I became a pottery finding machine. I found a few flint chunks and flakes, and one broken tip to a point, but nothing else really. He said he never found but a few points in the site with all the pottery. But it was something new to me...neat seeing the designs in it and such.

Man you loaded up! I have only found one piece of pottery but it had the upper rim on it, pretty cool.

A lot of the pieces I see are stamped with corn cob. Others look like pine straw, where they wrapped the pot during firing. If you break a piece and look at the middle it will have little white specks. That is muscle shell they put in it for tempering. There is a site close to me where you can't walk without stepping on it. It is only about 250 to 1500 years old from the mississippian period. Cool finds!!!!

It is only about 250 to 1500 years old from the mississippian period. Cool finds!!!!
Wich is why I never find any. The sites I hunt are mostly archaic...
