#314012 - 07/26/07 08:16 AM Anyone shoot off the string instead of a loop?
Anonymous TnDeer Old Timer

I've been using a loop for years but just got a new bow and trying different things. Been just attaching my release to the string while I've been lining everything up and I have to say it feels pretty natural to my draw length and anchor. Are there any disadvantages to this besides string wear? How long will my serving last? Any advice appreciated?

Shooting off the string adds string torque ,and also puts pressure on the bottom of the arrow that may effect arrow flight .
String loops are more forgiving for these reasons .

I've always shot off the string. I tried a D-loop once and cut it off within a few weeks. I guess old habits are hard to break. Seen quite a few loops break during drawing of bows though and that has always scared me.

So far, all I've ever shot has been string. It doesn't seem to have affected accuracy or anything else. I guess I've gone through 7 or 8 string changes and have yet to wear through the first serving.

Shooting from the string does effect the arrow flight. It torqes the arrow upward which in return causes a downward pointing arrow. The torque depends on what rest you use also, some are worse than others. I shot from the string for 3 years, and hesitantly switched to D loop... Needless to say I'll never go back to shooting from the string. =)

Good judgment comes from experience, alot of that comes from bad judgment.

Shoot from string - killed stuff from string - not broken - not fixing!

Any day above ground is a good day.

Why do I carry a gun? Because cops weigh too much to carry and are difficult to conceal.

I've been shooting off the string for 17 yrs now. Never had a problem with arrow flight. Some releases are harder on servings than others. Never had a tuning problem myself. The shorter the axle to axle length of the bow the more string pinch you get, keep this in mind. I'm like a few others here, if it ain't broke don't fix it, and the ole kiss method, keep it simple stupid. I also shoot 80 lbs and don't trust the string loop myself.

I might also add, everyone should learn to serve a string, not complex at all, and can save a hunt. I shoot an original trophy hunter release which is prolly one of the toughest releases on string servings. Because of this I carry dental floss with me at all times during the bowhunting season to repair in the field when or if needed. jmho
