Getting ready to bed a Remington 700 in a Boyd's stock and was wondering what the preferred bedding material was. I've pretty much decided on Devcon epoxy but looking for pro's and con's from some TNDeer members who have bedded a few in their time.

All my previous bedding jobs were done with JB Weld (bedding just around the recoil lug) but on this gun I'm going to put in pillars and bed the entire action.

Any input is appreciated!

Acra-glass x2. Just did my M48 Mauser sporter and it came out great. Only thing I wish I had remembered to do, and not sure if it applys to the 700 or not, was to taper the front lug slightly for easier action removal. It still comes out just have to work at it, as it is TIGHT.

Devcon if its a synthetic stock. For wood or laminate wood it's Acra-glass all the way. BTW, the green box acra-glass has a slower cure time than the red box.

I think that's what I'm going to use. Seems to be the hardest once cured and I like the thicker consistency.

I bedded my first action the other day on a 700 with laminate stock. I used the acraglass gel due to many recommendations on the product. I found it fairly easy to use especially for a rookie. I'm now getting sub-moa. Very pleased.

Acraglass is all I've tried so can't speak of the others. Regarding the area around the Recoil Lug, I read somewhere of a tip to help that. Put masking tape on the sides and front of the lug before doing the bedding job. That way you have clearance on the non-working sides of the lug equal to the thickness of the tape when you get done. I've done this and it works. Just be sure to use plenty of "Release Agent" on the tape before pushing it down into the epoxy.

I just finished pillar bedding a 700 ADL in wood using Devcon putty. I am on my 4th pound of the stuff, and is all I care to use.
