Gotta agree. If she's on a budget, Bersa .380.

My wife qualified for her HCP with her Bersa .380, and enjoys shooting it.

They have gone up a bit in price he last few years, I guess people caught on to what a decent little gun it is.

I am considering purchasing the compact in .40.

My biggest complaint with mom's P238 is that it's a single-action only with no decocker. To lay the hammer down, Sig ONLY recommends unloading the gun and dry-firing it.

It doesn't bother her. I may let her keep it. But she really really likes my sr22. I may have to try and find her one....

I had a fella show me an easy way. Have her grip the slide with her left hand (if she's right handed) and push the gun forward. My problem was solved.

I'm glad I found this thread from last month - I'm in the same boat with some interest expressed by my wife. She's never shot before (other than a couple random pot shots behind her uncle's house as a teenager).

She actually expressed interest in getting a carry permit, if nothing else just for the training opportunity.

The dust has settled on our situation. My girlfriend now has a Ruger GP100 4" loaded with Speer 135 GR 38+P Gold Dot in her nightstand and a Ruger LCR loaded with the same ammo in her office desk downstairs. She may also carry the LCR if she gets her license. She prefers the revolvers due to simplicity.
