Spurhunter was nice enough to invite me up to his lease this morning to squirrel hunt with him and his son. I tried my best to prep him for the realities of February Squirrel hunting, but he was feeling confident. They nabbed two squirrels and I got a rabbit. Despite being a nice morning, it was slow in the woods.

After we packed it in, I decided to ease on up to the Hatchie Refuge and try to kick up some more Rabbits. The water was up pretty good, so I was a little limited as to where I could go, but I managed to get two big ol' swamp rabbits. Mind you, I was freakin' starving by this point and Andy S. is texting me foodporn pics from Helen's BBQ.

Anyway, came straight home and put some heart and livers on the skillet.

The realities of February squirrel hunting were a SHOCK to me! I'm glad you found a few more rabbits. I had a feeling you weren't done when I dropped you off!

It's hard to believe you can sit in white oaks with a squirrel nest in every tree for several hours and not see a half dozen squirrels!

X2! The place I hunted and the place I put Poser in you could've killed the limit in thirty minutes in November!

I think I could eat the livers before I could drink the PBR!

What also sucks is how you go out to the woods and see no squirrels on a nice February day and come home to the city Squirrels out running around like its a freakin' bar mitzvah.

I didn't realize squirrels were Jewish. Forget the white oaks, find a Matzo tree. \:D

Sounds like a blast. How do you plan on cooking the Rabbits?

The last one I killed I put it (quartered) in a dutch oven with carrots, salt, pepper, and quite a bit of fresh Rosemary. It was delicious.

Rabbit and dumplings with at least one. -that's one of my favorite meals.

PBR has become too trendy for me. The price it fetches at some of the watering holes around is astounding.

My whole family stopped drinking PBR when they closed down thier Milwaukee brewery. My uncled tossed them out as his tap beer at his bar and went with Miller, which then got bought by a South African Co, but is at least still brewed in Milwaukee.

If I drink beer I prefer the micro brews, living in Germany for 5 years wreaked American beer for me, LOL.

Its a beer that I drink when I'm thirsty or just in the mood for a plain ol' beer.

I'll also add that when it comes to lowbrow beer, I'd much rather drink PBR than the more popular Budweiser, Coors etc. which reminds me. This is what the beer companies think of as worthy marketing to hunters:

I'm going to have to invest in some briar-proof waders to hunt my rabbit holes in the late season. All this rain has completely shut me down. Seeing those cleaned rabbits and then looking at the calendar has me regretting a few of my schedule choices over the past month...
