Many moons ago, a friend who used Tim McWhorter had a wildcat called the 30 Raptor which he shortened the 404 Jeffries to 2.5" and necked it down in 2 versions, one of course the 30 cal and then a 7mm Raptor with a 2.5" case length. He used RWS brass of the utmost highest quality, but they decided to end production of the 404 cases and his "Raptors" became extinct!
This is where it started for me with my wildcats off the 338 RUM case. I still have never built the 30/338 RUM

How have you been? Good to see you post. Your friend's gun sounds like a 300 Dakota, only 5 one-hundredths shorter. What powders/projectiles worked well for him?
I shot again on a perfect Sunday (50 F, sunny, no wind, and my daughter's 10th birthday. I'm such a great Dad - shooting on Ellie's birthday). Apparently, I can reach 3,300 fps with a 168, but not stay there safely. Too much pressure for my comfort level. 168 ttsx and around 84-85 grains of H-1000 = 3,200 fps and a couple 0.75" groups at 200 yards.
Barnes thinks you can load 88 grains for 3,300 fps. Not so with my gun. I was crunching powder at 86 grains. I hit 3,310 fps at 85.5 grains with some slight pressure. At 86 grains, I fired one shot and quit. 3,350 fps and bolt very sticky. Oh well, a 300 Weatherby it is not. 
Also re-visited the 180 NAB with RL-22. Around 77-78.5 grains. Couple more 3/4" groups @ 200 yards at 3,100+.
So 168's at 3,200 or 180's @ 3,100 is my dilemma now. The 180's may be a hair more accurate. More testing to determine.
What a fun cartridge.

have u tried re22 with the 168's trying to get to 3300?

Have you tried Accurate Magpro? I couldn't make speed with a 130 gr Scirocco in my 264 Win Mag using Retumbo, RL22, and H1000 until I tried Magpro. A book max load gave me 3250 FPS, a 75 FPS jump with equal accuracy and no pressure signs. I could probably work up little more,but that speed wIth accuracy is what I was wanting. I know that comparing my 264 to a 300 Dakota is an apples to oranges comparison, but the powders you are trying are the same. Accurate's site lists a 165 gr at 3220 FPS out of a 300 WSM with 78 gr, and 3400 FPS out of a 300 RUM with 96.5 gr. The Dakota should fit in there somewhere around 3300.
