I've done the just cut it off bone and all. but ive heard that doing that it can have a horrid smell

Hmmm, that's odd. I'm sure I looked strange, but I just got up and smelt the cut end of the tail, and I couldn't smell a thing, on any of them, even the ones that I've only had drying for 2 weeks today I think.
Maybe the squirrels where you live just don't clean themselves lol!

Who knows. I cut the tails off a few of mine and was gonna hang em up, and a buddy said they would smell awful, so I tossed them. I'll have to give it another shot.

hahaha! I'm glad no one saw me do that ha.
My grandpa said they they used to just cut off squirrel tails, bone and all, and let them dry on their bicycles back when he was a kid...forget reflectors or those clicking things....squirrel tails add class for to a bicycle haha.

That is awesome. People now would have a fit if they seen kids with squirrel tails on bike.
