That looks FANTASTIC! I say go with the gar scales....make it look even more tough! I have some old whitetail antlers around here; wish I knew how to do that with them.

Musky, how did you get started in knife making? The idea of it has always been real attractive to me, but weighing against it is that I tend to learn by demonstration rather than being a self-study person. Just wondered if someone mentored you or if you just researched and started hitting steel.

my grandpa was a blacksmith, i was under his feet every time i got to see him. when i was about 12 or so i got interested in knives and started using grandpas grinder to make me one. i ended up breaking his grindstone but i made me a knife, black tape handles and everything. in high school i got suspended from school for making a knife in shop class, would not have got caught making it but i accident stabbed a guy in the hand when i was showing my friends how good of a throwing knife it was, he tried to catch it in mid air. the next year i got suspended from school again when the shop teacher caught me making another one. when i started working in machine shop i got fired from my first job for making a knife on company time, lol. by all means i should have quit years ago. these last few years youtube has been my teacher as well as a big scrap pile of dead knives. \:\)

Wow, to have a grandfather blacksmith... well these days, that's more like something out of a story book than anyone's real life! Sounds like you've paid some dues along the way. I'm a little (lot) envious of the art you're able to make.

I know that in Chattanooga there was a group that shared ownership and use of a small blacksmith shop, and you could go learn to work metal. I never got to participate in that. Maybe some day I'll find a second chance.

Yes, a beautiful work of art. I cannot fathom how much time went into it, you are indeed blessed with talent and a lot of patience.

As for a sheath...hmmm. A Knife of this beauty has to have something unique. Wolf maybe. From the very Far North. With winter hair from some portion of the cape that is streaked white or silver.
