We went there years ago. Most people caught crappie while trolling. This wasn't really our style but we caught quite a few running docks. That is until we discovered that the rockfish were schooling and busting shad every where. We then ditched the crappie and absolutely killed 10 - 25 lb rockfish in the jumps until our arms hurt. We were the only ones doing it as the locals considered the rockfish "buzzards". I just know that they were a whole lot of fun catching in the jumps. They don't taste too bad either if cleaned right. Good luck!

Straight out from JR's marina. Troll in bout 4-6 feet of water. Better yet just find where all the other boats are and troll there.

Back from the lake. Had a great time caught a lot of Crappie, Limited out Saturday and caught about 200 fish. Lot of small fish. Sunday not as good, changed spots and only fished till 1130 but still had 15 keepers and have no ideal how many I threw back. That being said the people around Weiss was super nice and helpful. Saturday a guide let me follow his boat and he even gave me some free advice but I did give him a nice tip. Got to find a better place to stay the bed was horrible

You used to could go there and catch some monster slabs. My visits have lessened since I started catching bigger fish at home. Yea its not the 30 a person limit but they are much bigger. I think that higher limit is the reason the lake isnt full of the bigger ones as much anymore. We try and throw all the huge females back when we catch them so they can produce more for yrs to come. Glad you had a good time. Its always good to get away every once in a while.

Not Gonna name the hotel, But I think I'll be checking VRBO next time. The people at the hotel was super and the room was nice enough and with my job I do sleep in a lot of hotels, But the bed had seen better days!

Yea, very nice to get away. Your right about the limit. I don't see how the lake sustains with the amount of fish being caught, Everyone I seen was catching fish. The guides are the way to go if you've never been or you just don't wanna fool with the boat. Every guide I seen come in had a limit of fish and good slabs with stories of twice as many thrown back. But I bet they stock a lot of fish. I read fishing brings about 18 million in revenue to that area and they need it.
