Whats your experience/ advice with tools such as these? Is it basically jus a 50/50 that you get on the right bird or birds? I have heard they are more effective early in season when birds are establishing their dominance. Also when gobblers are still in groups, as there a little braver in numbers or maybe it's just that your chance are better of having a dominant mature bird in a group...
But then I've heard ppl say they've had more jakes and 2 yr old birds, come into a strutter decoy than they have mature birds...??

What's your thoughts?

I have never used a full strut decoy, but I have seen gobblers come to a regular jake decoy and do like they do on tv, but only three times. I hardly ever use decoys though so my sample size isn't worth very much.
I do use a gobble call quite often and it sometimes elicts gobble respones when nothing else will. Although it could have very well happened to me, I do not think I have ever "gobbled up" a gobbler but I normally don't try. I am sure it would work on occasions though.

I have never personally used one, but know somebody who used one one time. he said as soon as the gobbler saw it it ran off. Like I said earlier, the regular jake, mine is either a feather flex or flambeua, not even sure because I hardly use it, does work occasionally though.
to me scaring off one gobbler isn't worth it. I have killed plenty without decoys so I don't see why I would need one now.

Ive never used a strutter but do use a gobble call in several situations. Last year I was trying to get my wife an old gobbler that was very territorial over one certain pasture. I had called to him sparingly for maybe a 60 minute timeframe and all he wanted to do was just gobble and walk back and forth on a little ridge in the field. I dropped back about 30 yards behind my wife, yelped and then immediately hit the gobble call. That old gobbler came charging down right into her lap and she drilled it. Ended up having 1.5 inch spurs.

I have had them hang up at 90 yards and strut and gobble for hours. I have had them stand across the field and gobble at it. I have had as many as 9 jakes come in and strut around it. Never kiled a bird over it. But, I've used it less than 10 times over several years.

To me a full strut decoy is just to much to tote

A friend of mine doesn't own a single call, but he kills a limit over a strutter decoy every year. I've seen several die with gobbling as well as hunting over a strutter

I have never used a decoy of any kind and don't plan on ever using one or needing one.

I have used and killed a fair number of birds by gobbling at them. I gobble using a diaphragm and it sounds amazingly realistic unlike the gobble calls on the market. Caution is obviously required when gobbling.
