I pulled two of my .22 rifles out this past week to try for some squirrels, and found that both of them shoot inordinately high. The back sight is bottomed out, and in the case of my Browning, hinged so that removal of the bridge is not even possible. Is this unusual?

The BL-22 does have a rail for mounting a scope. Any recommendations for a decent .22 scope that will make an adequate plinking, squirreling gun? I'd really rather not spend all that much, but then I figure with the recoil of a .22, it may not take near as much scope to equip.
Some hunt for racks, some hunt for roasts. I hunt for sheer joy; the aforementioned items are merely fringe benefits.

If you are a serious small game hunter, and plan to be for life, go ahead and invest in a decent scope. I like the Leupold VX-2 line...and i put the 3-9x40 power on all my .22s.
I always buy them on discount new, and they usually run $250-279. Ive seen them used for half that.
Ive never heard someone say "I shouldnt have bought such a good quality scope!"
The extra dollars you spend now wont mean a thing to you 5 years from now, but you will still have decent glass on your gun.
But whether you buy a cheap scope or decent scope just make sure you get a decent set of sturdy rings for it. The best scope in the world wont hold zero with poor quality rings.
Just my experience.

Well Nimmer, I haven't ever paid that much for a scope, thats just me. I have a 3x9x40 simmons on my 22 and my 22mag.Both are bolt action marlins I think 882 and 883 models (not sure on the model#s).

I wear them squirrels out with either one of them.I'm not saying that its a waste buying good glass, I just can't see putting that kinda money for somethin when the cheaper line still does the trick, plus that money could go to another gun! \:\/

If you can afford it, jump on it bud, but if the dollar is tuff, there are other alturnatives out there.Good shootin on what ever you decide.

I have a fixed Simmons on my BL 22 maybe a 4 power with see through sights which I needed to keep the scope off the barrel. It has a wide angle just can't remember what it is and seeing the range you shoot a 22 don't see spending a couple hundred for a 22 scope but that's just me. I got a wide angle because that's what the guy had in stock and I wanted a wider view for shooting at running rabbits.

Hopefully that link worked. Thats the scope I've put on my Ruger 10/22. I love it! switch it back and forth to my other .22's until after this baby is born and I can save back up to buy the others scopes.
We never really grow up, we only learn how to act in public.

You do not need a parachute to skydive. You only need a parachute to skydive twice
