Just because it's bad-a** don't mean it's a good idea.

If you have never been to the Wall it is well worth the trip.

In country March 28th 1969. Promoted to SSG, Bien Hoa, January 1970. DEROS 9/25/70. Kind of creepy, at least to me, how these dates are stuck in my mind. And, yeah, I extended my tour of duty 6 months, I'll spare you the story.

There is a poem, about Marines I think, but nearly every soldier I knew said something very like this:
and when he gets to heaven,
to saint peter he will tell:
"Just another soldier reporting, sir
I've served my time in hell."
For Vietnam veterans it was and remains very true.

I cannot visit the Wall. There are people there I know.

I personally thank you for the post.

I can't say how Vietnam combat veterans feel, because almost all of my SEA (SE Asia) time was spent next door at Takhli and Korat Royal Thai Air Force Bases. I only landed and took off from Vietnam a couple times, just passing thru. I worked on, both flight line and field shop) the APN 131 Doppler Radar Navigation System on the F105 aircraft. This bird flew many bombing missions during the war and also was later used for missile suppression. Brave pilots flew this aircraft, when used for suppression, they would go out in pairs and one would literally fly around the missile site while daring the site to turn on their radar. The other one would stand off ready to launch a missile to follow the radar. Lots of long and hot days during my 19 months in Thailand (2 TDYs and 1 PCS. Spent 20 years and 15 days active duty USAF and then another 20 years Civil Service, all Air Force. I do have a lot of respect for those
who actually saw action in country in Vietnam. Recently I looked up the Service Record of a fellow high school friend who was only 1 year behind me. He graduated fm West Point but was killed in Vietnam. When I read "Died in Vietnam" on his record, it hit me hard. I have been to the Wall. Very few dry eyes there. Thanks Ray

Those men squashed communism no matter who says otherwise. Without them and the effort in Korea communism would be widespread....Well done and thank you.

I want to visit the wall some day. I have read and studied a lot about the Vietnam War. There was a period of my life where I was truly fascinated by it. I have the utmost respect for the men who fought that war. God bless them all.

Grandpa loves watching war movies and reading books but has never talked about his time there. To me anyways.
