While out at a WMA this past weekend scouting with my son saw 2 pheasants running around. Very pretty birds but they let us get way to close. Figure they will not make it to long out there with the yotes and Hawks. Question is would that be a legal bird to shoot if we had a gun? Could not find anything in the regs . Saw one about 4 years ago near the same spot so I would guess the next property owner must release some to shoot. As far as I know there are not any shooting preserves close by.

I'm not so sure about that... since pheasants are not "native" to Tennessee, they may not be governed by state wildlife laws.

I would like for scn to weigh in on this.

I think you can shoot pen raised pheasants.

I think you can shoot pen raised pheasants.

You can if they are released on a licensed small game shooting preserve. Otherwise, they are illegal to hunt in TN.

Sidenote:
FYI, I don't care how young and spry you THINK you are, you cannot run down and catch a full grown Pheasant.
Don't matter if you think it won't fly because it is hurt or not.
Since it is the only one you have ever seen in the wild in Weakley County TN.

Speaking of pheasants, why will they not thrive in the wild in Tennessee???
