that magic moment when you make 2-3 minutes of comments at a meeting, watch the crowd start to call the organization holding the meeting "liars" and you calmly get up and quietly leave = "priceless"

US Fish and Wildlife service at 3 different public meetings[2 in Ripley Tn and 1 in Brownsville] had stated that they have never "taken land" for refuge purposes, I produced 2 deeds titled "Declaration of Taking" tonight at the Ripley meeting, 1 deed was approx 4500 acres that they paid $186.00 per acre for and the other was approx 1222 acres that they paid approx $132.00 +/- per acre for, it was a "priceless moment" listening to the comments that followed

The article says buy land only from "willing Sellers? Why do I suspect thats complete BS. Eminent Domain will come up, even if the Public Use clause required would be pretty vague, it does not take much.

How does that compare to "fair market value"?

A college buddy of mine works for the state of Arkansas Dept of Agriculture. He emailed me this message before he knew of all the crap going on with W. TN.

"Fish and wildlife is being forced to purchase all this land and do all these studies due to some hippie law suit. I went to a hearing in Hot Springs were they want to require my department to buy land for them and us use state eniment domaine so my department looks like the bad guy. Then they want us to enter into private land use agreements so they don't have to adhere to their own rules on endangered species."

When that happened in Haywood Co didn't the landowners get to cut timber for several years afterward? Seems like I heard that somewhere.

the parties that went back to Federal Court and fought for timber rights ended up repaying and getting 5 years to cut timber

fair market value in todays prices are somewhere between $2000.00--$3000.00 per acre depending upon size of timber and beaver damage areas.

Im not a fan of Refuge land, particularly because of their plethora of restrictions. However I have not been able to prove it but have heard from several that claims the USFWS "took the land" along several spots of the Hatchie in Tipton Co.. If this is the case I have a problem with my federal tax dollars and licence sales going to "take" land from private owners.

I know for a fact that they took land in Haywood County, I have copies of the deeds to prove it.

they are real humbling deeds titled "Declaration of Taking"

Even if more than fair market value is paid, it is still wrong. Forcing people to sell is no better than theft or blackmail. Eminent domain is theft in my opinion.

land taken by Eminent domain is such a strong move by the government that the owner of the land does not sign the deed when the "taking of property" is executed

I'd bet they love to see you show up in a meeting Ray! Good job.

You say they are wanting to purchase all the Hatchie River bottoms? That's crazy and nothing I've heard, except from here. Media must be ignoring this.

About the tax/license deal. I can see how taxes would be going towards this nonsense, but what license sales would support this? Duck stamp, maybe?

I may be overly sensitive to it after listening to Granny talk about her family land being taken for the Manhatten project and standing at Norris Lake with stik's great Aunt while she showed us where she lived and about her neighbors places that are now under water. I am proud of you for standing up to them. I hope you win the fight.
