So I'm getting a new rifle and was about convinced to get a 25-06 but have started looking at 7mm 08's. this will be a field gun with shots up to 300. Would love to hear thoughts from those familiar with both.
Thanks Steve

I have both, I like the heavier available bullet weights for the 7-08 for deer. The 25-06 is a hot little cartridge though, I like it for coyote long range.

Know your rifle, load, and dope and you are good with either.

Long action vs. short action. I like the short action.

I can only comment on the 7-08 from my own experience. It has been a very accurate round, kills very well, love the availability of bullets, and it fits in a short action light weight rifle.
But just like ratsnakeboogy said know your rifle and spend time at the range shooting. You will have no problem with it at 300yrds.
I love my 7-08 of course I'm partial to .284 bullets anyway!

I have and have taken deer with both and each has done the job very well. I would like to think the 25 will reach out there a little more, but how far do you want to go. If I had to chose I think I would go with the 25, but you can't go wrong either way.

I have 25/06. Ammo is not cheap for it. Can't say 7mm08 is any cheaper but 25 is bout buck fitty a round.
