For anyone that has a Cuddeback - advice please. The manual states to put the flash card in after you have turned on the power and the information has been shown but the sticker on the camera itself states not to put the flash card in except when the camera is off. I don't want to mess up the flash card and just wanted to know any thoughts. Thanks in advance!

Which Cuddecrap do you have?
I really don't think it matters when you insert the flash card. Only matters when you take it out.

I have the Excite. I have had some issues with the card already (I hope its the card). In testing it out it took some pictures and worked fine then a couple of days later - the camera is operating and taking pictures but it will not save the images to the flash card.

You have my sympathy in owning a 2006 or later version Cuddecrap. The 2005 and earlier models were great. (I have a 2006 No Work.) P.S. Wait until you try to change the batteries in the field without taking it off the tree.
If possible, the best advise I can give you is take it back where you got it and get a full refund --- then go get you a great digital cam for about the same $.
Otherwise, you'll have to send it to Cuddeback to be repaired, only it will still be a Cuddecrap compared to other cams now available for less $.

Alright, now I am offically ticked. Put in a new flashcard tonight and the same thing.....it won't save the pictures to the card. I am not trying to open a can of worms here but from experience, what is the best camera to buy for the money....I just want something that is reliable with a decent trigger speed.

Not sure what you paid for that Excite, but you can get a new Homebrew from OutdoorBob for @ $350. These "homebrews" are called that because they use real Sony digital cameras with higher quality triggers than you'll find on commercial cams. Most commercial cams are using cheap image processors instead of quality cameras. These homebrews typically use 4.0 mp Sony cameras. I have the P41 model myself. They are light years ahead of any Cuddeback.
IMO, right now, for the money, the 2007 Cuddebacks are the worst thing on the market.
For a lot of info on various models available, check out this game cam rating service: http://www.chasingame.com
And here's where my P41 "homebrew" came from: http://www.gotchatrailcams.com

If you have not already, go check out the site chasingame. It is an excellent site. I know the problem of Cuddies not writing to cards was addressed last year at length although I think most had the problems with the No Flash cameras not writing. I have a '06 Expert and two Excites. No writing problems on three different brands of compact flash cards. I do not know when it is best to insert and remove the card, but for me the cameras are always off. The cameras are very fast, but my main complaint is that the batteries go very, very fast. For commercials, I also have Stealthcams I390's. The batteries seem to last at least 3x as long as the Cuddies. The Stealths are horribly slow, however, if on a feed station or lick, it does not matter much. They are worthless on trails.
All that being said, as mentioned, think about going the homebrew route. Fast, reliable, long battery life.... Put them together yourself or like me and some others buy from Outdoorbob. His cameras are excellent in quality and value.

Go homebrew. You won't be sorry. There isn't a commercial camera available that can touch the quality of a homebrew.

stirrat,
If you can only get out once a month or so, I would buy a homebrew with extra battery power (other than the standard 2 AAs in the camera). Although I've heard good things about using lithium AAs in the camera. I'm going to be testing those soon.
