Two U.S. Air Force F-15 fighter aircraft, operating out of Andersen Air Force Base, Guam, intercepted the Russian Tu-95 bomber aircrafts, which left in a northbound direction, said military spokeswoman Capt. Kim Bender.
Bender said no further action was taken but declined to give more details, citing security reasons.
The incident occurred shortly before President Obama delivered his State of the Union address, as reported first by The Washington Free Beacon.
The newspaper also said the Russian bombers were equipped with nuclear-tipped cruise missiles.
The F-15s were participating in an annual exercise, Cope North, on Andersen AFB. They are stationed at the 18th Wing, Kadena Air Base, Japan, the military said.
Pacific Command forces are there to ensure air warning and control over Hawaii, Guam, and the U.S. interests in the area. PACOM maintains fighters on alert to respond quickly to any potential air threats within the Pacific area of operations, Bender said.

Many Russians believe the meterior that blew up over their country was a US weapons test sent as a warning. We of course know our Prez doesn't have the "stones" to do anything like this.

He may not have the "stones" to do it but he sure has the lack of brains to do it! Not that I think that is what is was. The guy who suggested thats what it was CLEARLY has nothing between the ears.

I would have to say the Russians are testing the water or flexing their muscle.
If you catch the source of the information, there is a bit more information on Russian flights and you can see the change up on wording concerning the nuke weapons: http://freebeacon.com/bear-bombers-over-guam/
"Defense officials said the bombers tracked over Guam were likely equipped with six Kh-55 or Kh-55SM cruise missiles that can hit targets up to 1,800 miles away with either a high-explosive warhead or a 200-kiloton nuclear warhead." Unless there is actual verification of the payload, the Defense officails should have said "capable of carrying" instead of "likely equipped".
The Kh55 is carried as an internal payload. A visual of the aircraft would not able to confirm or deny that the aircraft was carrying nuclear weapons. This is more than likely a play by the media to catch the readers attention in the article posted by Encore.

Back in the day when I was stationed there it was a SAC Base, 10 B-52s locked and loaded, it changed to a MAC and now AMC base. I am suprised there were AF fighters there to defend the island.
