Well this hard Gladeville water has killed our dishwasher after almost 11 years so I need a new one. Any advice on what to look at or are they all about the same? Current one is a Frigidaire.

Ours is a Whirlpool and its been great. Whatever brand you choose pick one that's quiet. I'd stay away from GE though.

Kitchenaid with the third rack is awesome. Very quite and cleans very well.
Bosch is good, but tiny inside.

Whirlpool for the money is great value. Kitchenaid pricey but good. Bosch is also a good one but be prepared to pay.

To me, they're all crap. I think my folks have an LG that's really been a pain. The Maytag we used to have in our last house was huge, worked like a charm, and sounded like it was on the verge of rattling apart. It could've woken Rip Van Winkle. Our most successful appliances have always been Samsung. If I were shopping for a new dishwasher, that's the brand I would start with. We had a fridge from them we loved, and our washer/dryer combo are both Samsung as well. In my experience, they're the best mfgr. of appliances these days.

Don't know who made my Sears Kenmore, But I'd steer clear. Mine caught fire, as in flames. And they made me pay 85 bucks for a service call AND lectured me about going to bed with an appliance running.
If I hadn't been awake and smelled smoke I coulda had more of a problem.
