Probably everyone is stocking up right before muzzleloader so you may have to order online or something

oh well...i might just see how well i can get it at 50 yards max for now using the stock fiber optic sites and whatever bullets I can get my hands on at the time and go shoot some in a minute. Just to get a feel for the gun itself and break it in. I will report back. Would really like a scope to dial in before the upcoming weekend, but so far its not looking promising.

ok, so I got back from wally world a min ago. I just ended up going with a box of triple seven pellets for now. Also got some winchester 209 triple seven primers. A bullet starter and some foaming bore cleaner. Now what do I use to swap between shots? what kind of cleaner? Also when I clean the gun I know i use bore cleaner, but what do you use for rust prevent? can i just use rem oil?

Between shots, a wetpatch is all you need. Once you have it sighted in and are ready to go, take it apart and clean thoroughly. I use hot soap and water and powder solvent. Dry completely and run a lightly oiled patch, followed by a dry patch down it. Be sure the breech plug is clean and dry. Then, it is ready to go.

Load before the hunt and if you do not shoot it, just leave it loaded. Make sure to remove primer and store safely. I have left mine loaded over eight months and it shot fine. When you shoot it again, be sure to cleam before storing after the season.

Not complicated once it is sighted in. Put a decent scope on it, sight in 2" high at 100 and you should be good out to 150. Just hold dead center.

well i took it out to royal blue to shoot it and a few other guns...I only shot it twice. I picked up some 250gr TC shockwaves and yeah, the ram rod wants to get hung on those. The soft tip wants to just grab ahold of my rod. I still have no scope because I cant find any base mounts so it dont look like ill be muzzleloading for the opener. I shot the first time, no dice with open sights at 100 yds...then i just ran a regular dry patch down a couple of times. What solvents should I get? I have hoppes and rem oil that I use for my regular guns, but I bought some bore foaming cleaner for the muzzleloader...what should I use for oiling for storing in between shootings to prevent rust? Sorry I am new to muzzleloading. So at this point I cant really say anything good or bad about the shockwaves shooting out of my gun other them wanting to grab ahold of my ram rod.

Also, one other question. Is the gun ok to sit in the box over night without cleaning until after work tomorrow or do I need to get out of bed and do it tonight?

I have the same rifle and you can't beat the price. It's the most accurate muzzleloader I've owned. It shoots tighter groups that my buddy's $500 Traditions muzzleloader.

Nice thanks for the feedback whites....
I went ahead and stuck some of the TC17 foaming bore cleaner down it and ran some patches down it, followed by a light coat of rem oil...looks like it did when I took it out of the box now. Now I just gotta learn to use this thing and get my scope. I am guessing my ram rod is also my cleaning jag since it has the beveled edges on the end of the ram rod tip.

Don't take this wrong but shooting a M.L. twice and going hunting is not the best idea.Shooting and loading a M.L. is not quite as easy as a rifle. One of the most important things is being able to load the gun exactly the same every time. The pressure you use when seating the bullet needs to be the same every time. Not as easy as it sounds.Make sure you are positive the bullet is completely seated against the powder. A gap between the charge and the bullet and you can put a bulge in the barrel or blow it up mark the ram rod so you know how far it goes in loaded and empty.Good luck to you.

haha, im not going hunting with it after shooting it twice. I only shot it twice because its all I could do with the 100 yard range i was at that everyone else was using. Does me no good to waste rounds with an open sight that I can barely see the target. ;\) I want to get a sight on it and it dialed in before I take it out to smack a deer with.
