In about a month and a half you can catch all you could possibly want near the first set of shoals from Three Rivers on the Holston And the French Broad.

Tennessee actually put a creel limit of 100 and possession limit of 200 on the skipjack this year! Since you were looking for them in numbers I figured I'd pass that along so you don't go and get yourself in trouble. Goodluck.

I am wanting about 100 to freeze and use all summer. I agree with the limit just because they have become so hard to find in East Tennessee. I use to go to Melton hill dam in april and fill a cooler in a couple of hours. The past several years 1 or 2 a day was good then last year not a one.

I use shad regularly but not spacifically for skipies. Never caught a skipie on them.
