Your incorrect sir.... Latex will not stretch in a mouth call properly pressed it will detoriate if not properly taken care of. But is should not stretch if properly built and cared for I have one mouth call built three years ago that still looks the same latex wise and sounds the same it has new tape as it had loosened but the latex is still good
I guess we will disagree on this point... I build a few mouth calls and most all call makers build mouth calls using basically the same presses, frames and latex. You press it, stretch it and press again, not a lot of technique to it, there many variables that determine the sound but the technique used to press them is not usually on of them... I was just responding to the "most store bought" statement... believe me I think that every hunter should use custom calls, but most calls (mouth calls) store bought or "custom" will last a long time if taken car of. Many times over time a little stretch just creates a little more rasp in the call... IMO
Sorry, don't mean to hijack the mans thread...

For those looking to mix it up, I would suggest trying a copper pot call. I used one for the first time towards the end of last season and was blown away with the results.
For example, last season I did a little experiment. I sat on the edge of a food plot and watched a gobbler strut his stuff while surrounded by hens. I knew the chances of calling him in were slim to none, so I decided to test out a few calls. I pulled out my slate call and could not get him to gobble. I pulled out my aluminum call and was able to get him to gobble a few times. I pulled out my copper call and it drove him crazy. He literally gobbled every time I yelped on it- sometimes double and tripe gobbles. By no means is this conclusive, but it certainly convinced me to carry a copper pot in my vest from then on.

Interesting, thanks for sharing.

Hooks sassy gal 2, houndstooth tom bomb and dixie combo 3. I purchased these this year because a buddy turned me on to them. Houndstooth makes one of the better calls right out of the pack. They feel as if you have broke them in for a month before season. IMO Im also using a couple of Lonnie Sneeds pot calls this year. Hot Hen Slate and Green Glass. They are old school type in style. Man they can make a turkey sound sing.
