these are one of my most favorite things to find in the woods. Possibly more so than shed antlers...

Hopefully this spring will warm up slowly and with some rain to bring a good crop of morels. Been praying for a good spring for morel hunting. I would like to find a good bunch of em and also find some with a few members here who have been interested.

Last year they came out very early, I did manage to find nearly 200 of them, but it warmed up too quick and did not rain enough, so all the mushrooms dried out and 2011's honey holes didn't produce any (in 2011 I found 200 shrooms in one afternoon).

some of yall know I tend to post about these mushrooms way too early, I can't help it, sorry. \:D I made the mistake a couple nights ago of watching youtube videos of morel hunting and that set me off.

I have always wanted to try them. Growing up in South Alabama we didn't have them. I'm not a big mushroom fan, but just hearing folks rave about them I want to try em.

I don't know about e.tn but I find them mostly in hardwoods on hill sides, I have found em in hollers and also ridge tops, north or south facing doesn't seem to matter much... You would think south facing would have earlier mushrooms but I found the earliest last year on a north facing slope... Maybe just the way it worked for me but I usually find them on hillsides regardless. Blacks usually come up first (the one in the pic) followed by whites/grays and yellows (the biggest). Good luck

We have plenty of them in east TN. I have a place that should be full of them this spring, if I can beat the hogs to them! I will take you along if you are up for the hike!

in a pan in butter. salt pepper and maybe garlic powder... or you can cook them a lot of ways like any mushroom.

this video I watched the other day, it is what really got me itching to go morel hunting again. They cook them up toward the end of the video, and it just plain made me hungry.

My kids love the smaller ones.

Here is a simple and quick way to cook them, and you can add some greens too like dandelion flowers and clover flowers!

We take the small one, dip them in pancake batter and deep fry them!

I cannot cook them fast enough.

You sir, are an evil young man. After seeing this picture, I have been craving these all day, knowing they won't be showing up for another month and a half to two months. Thanks, thanks alot. Why don't you just go ahead and tell bigfoot stories the night before the bow season opener also!

Yes they are in west tn. Most people in this half of the state don't know what they are or have never heard of them. I pick several every year.

Is there a market for them like ginseng, or is it all for personal consumption? Seems like most folks would have a hard time eating 200 mushrooms before they went bad, but maybe I'm wrong.

Are there any mushroom species that look similar to them but are toxic? My confidence level in picking mushrooms of any kind is very low \:\)

Point the directon and we will go! Always wanted to hunt them and ginseng for that matter. I was always worried about picking the wrong thing.
