I used to be a Leupold fan until I looked thru and hunted with a Zeiss. I have since replaced all of my Leupolds and almost all of my rifles wear Zeiss. IMO, Leupold has been playing catchup for the past 10 years. They still don't have etched reticles for their VX3 line unless you get the B&C reticle which costs $100-150 more.
None the less, Leupold makes a good product and many are pleased with what they have to offer. I would first figure out what features you want your scopes to have within your price range and then begin to eliminate the ones you don't like. If you're thinking of NF you're in the Alpha scope category in price range. I would also consider Swarovski, Meopta, Leica, Zeiss, Schmidt and Bender, Vortex Razor and the new alpha MINOX.

I have a NF NXS 3.5-15×56 on my 300WM and it is as clear as the day is long. I've always believed that 99.9% rifles shoot straight so invest your money in great glass.
It's worth the money at twilight and dusk.

I guess it depends on your budget. I would be happy with either.

I keep it simple and put Leupolds on everything. The Rifleman or VX1 are decent. As you go up the Leupold line in cost, the quality gets better. If you have any problems their customer service has always been top notch.
