do any of you turkey hunters like me have a hard time him that old gobbler sound off? i didnt know i did tell my son was hearing birds i couldnt hear. do any of you use hearing aids like walker game ears??

For me it's more not being able to decipher where/which direction the call came from.
I read an article about a couple of guys that would go out in the woods and one would stay put (with eyes closed) and the other walk off and at 5 or 10 minutes the walker would putt and the sitter would point towards where the sound came from.

Having two people definitely helps. When we locate call, one person stops while the other walks up about 50 yards. The front guy will usually close his eyes and be able to pinpoint where the bird is pretty accurately.

I bought a pair of Pro-Ear Gold hearing muffs several years ago from Cabelas and not only do they drastically improve my hearing ability while turkey hunting but they also allow me to determine the direction the sound is coming from.

Also know that it's a physiological fact some folks may never be able to hear certain sounds (gobble or otherwise). I can hear spit and drum like its through a megaphone but know folks that can only hear one or the other...or neither. Sometimes the syllables of the gobble can even be differentiated and I can't tell you how many times only a note or 2 of his gobble has given the bird away.
Topography, wind, humidity, vegetation etc all play a role in whether we hear them or not and can accurately pinpoint. Oh yeah...and age. I've got a 12 year old nephew that when he tells me he heard one gobble over the river and through the woods I just plain trust him. My hearingjust ain't what it used to be.

I have the Walker's muffs and agree with this. I will add that they make it very hard to judge distance and they also amplify ALL other sounds to the point of being annoying to me.
The last time I tried to use mine for turkeys, all I could hear was cars going up and down the road. Took them off and couldn't tell there was a road anywhere around me.
