Sounds like a great idea. Maybe give away a gag trophy to the winners.

Old Hickory for sure. Maybe below the dam before the corps screws up the fishing.

I have a Jon boat, will take one person if needed, if you don't mind a narrow boat (a bit tippy to some people) it's ready to run again here pretty soon

Well, since there is interest I think we could make this happen. I have no idea of a date, but will investigate some possibilities, but I'm leaning more towards end of March before turkey season, due to the fact that is typically a very hot time on the water for species like crappie, bass and bluegill. I'm leaning more towards above the dam on Old Hickory because it is centrally located, with the greatest selection of species, and I was also thinking that everyone could catch a mess of fish collectively and then in the afternoon everyone could beach up at one of the many picnic areas and we could have a fish fry and fellowship. For those that don't have a boat, or a seat in a boat, we could also pick an area that has good bank fishing at the picnic area we will meet at and perhaps swap out some boat seat time as well.
If anyone else has any ideas, feel free to throw them up—this is just something that just popped in my head.

I tried to google it Ruger but it was confusing...is Old Hickory over by Nashville? If not, in relations to Pall Mall, TN where is it?

Old Hickory Lake is east of downtown Nashville about 12 miles—it borders part of the eastern border of Davidson County. I'm thinking about the mid to lower part of Old Hickory just because of the proximity to I-65/I-40 for those out of towners and it has the best selection of picnic areas/parking. Specifically, Shutes Branch day-use area/boat ramp or Cedar Creek.
Dont they rent pontoons up there? i would possibly be up for that
I know there are a couple of marinas up here and I will look into pontoon rental and see what I can find. I know it is done on Preist Lake, which is a possibilty as well as it is very close to Old Hickory and right beside I-40. That actually could be an idea for a few of those that don't have a boat, or a seat in a boat—get a few together and split the cost of a rental.

Fate Sanders Marina on Pearcy Priest has boat rentals including pontoons. It is also pretty easy access from I40 and I24.

Actually, I was thinking a slightly more up river—Shutes Branch or Cedar Creek which is at the end of Saundersville Rd. The reason I'm thinking these spots is either has a good picnic area, it is more toward the middle of the lake in case someone wants to go upstream closer to the Power Plant, or down by the dam and ease/centrality of getting to via the Interstates.

May I add that mid march would be better than the end. I know a lot of folks will or may be taking a juvenile turkey hunting. Maybe the weekend of the 16th??

I'm good with March 16th. Everyone else check your calenders and let's see if that date is good for the largest number of us. Just respond yes or no on that date and let's go from there.

If someone has an open seat, I'll go, guide and share expenses. 3-16 works for me on either body of water.

March 16 is good for me, long as I request off work that day and nothing else comes up.
I really like fishing below the dam but I understand the main lake and picnic area would work better for most of us. Guess I better brush up on my lake fishing skills, I am used to the rivers.
Name the time and place, it should be as early in the A.M. as possible, as a full day fishing sure doesn't last as long as you think it will.

The one day of the year my wife was born! That's pretty much gonna rule it out for me, sadly.
Unless I can resurrect my old boat and make it a family trip!

I'll be somewhere in the area. But it will be on the edge of a diamond. That is the kick off weekend for the bpa baseball season I love the water but for the next two years I doubt I see much of it.
