I had a question after reading a thread in the twra forum. Besides predators why dont we have many pheasants in Tn? There was a man that bought a bunch up the road from us about 15 years ago and they all got free. They stayed awhile but then it seemed they died out. There wasnt many predators in the area. It was near a city park.

I've heard it has something to do with a type of mite that lives south of the freeze line. Apparently it and pheasants do not get along well together.

Humidity on the eggs. The only reproducing population of wild pheasants in the south that I know of is on the outer banks of NC

TWRA stocked Japanize Pheasants in Dyer County back in the mid sixties. They did not make it. Was told that the birds could not deal with chiggers.

Thanks. Interesting about the chiggers and mites. An old timer once told me that and I thought he was crazy. Guess I might have been wrong.

The pheasant population in Michigan is way down...a few years ago we saw and heard them all the time. Somewhat rare now...
