Is it leagal to look for elk sheds, transport and keep them....outside of the Smokey Mountain Park ? I read an article from the Ashville, N.C. paper and saw where three people were arrested. I do believe they were sawed off the dead elk.

I am interested to know as well. I know you cannot remove anything from a WMA without permission from the area manager, including elk sheds. On private property it should not be an issue.

In NC elk are a protected non game species
So possessing sheds in NC is currently illegal
The sheds in question were found on Federal land ( Pisgah National Forest)

I know folks that hunt them at Royal Blue.........still wondering if it is legal there.
